What is Hidden Power?

Hidden Power gets people confused quite a lot. Just in case you don't know what it is, here are some basic facts about it:

Not very informative is it? Well, read on. This isn't the end of my guide yet, you know. ;)

Common Mistakes

Probably the most common mistake when people try to understand Hidden Power is that they always think that the type it is is random every time you use it. When, say, Espeon uses Hidden Power on you and it says 'It's super effective!' you think, He got lucky that time. No! Hidden Power only has one type, like any other move. It is NOT random. Keep that in mind.

Although what I'm going to point out to you isn't really a common mistake, it will still be useful to know. In the move description on your Pokedex it says: Type: Normal. Don't listen to that. Hidden Power can be any type but Normal.

General Information

Like I said before, Hidden Power can be any type except for Normal. The damage it can deal will range from 30 to 70.The things that depend on what type Hidden Power is for your Pokemon are DVs (Deter Values). DVs can also be called IVs (Individual Values). Each Pokemon has different DVs for each stat, and they range from 1 to 31. 1 DV means one more stat point for my Pokemon. So, here's the stats for a Pokemon with 0 DVs in every stat:

HP: 112
Attack: 89
Speed: 67
Sp. Attack: 74
Sp. Defense: 59

And here's the same stats, except with 10 DVs in all stats:

HP: 122
Attack: 99
Speed: 77
Sp. Attack: 84
Sp. Defense: 69

See the difference? Of course, your chances of getting the same DV in every stat are almost impossible, so don't let the examples mislead you. So, using a Hidden Power calculator, the Pokemon with 0 DVs in all stats will have Fighting as the type and 30 as the base power.

Hidden Power's Uses

Hidden Power is pretty pointless in the Video Games because it will be almost impossible to get the right DVs for the type and power that you want, since there is no way to adjust your DVs in game. But, in competitive play, Hidden Power does have its uses. Why? Because you can adjust your DVs in competitive play so you can get the right type and power for your Pokemon. That means that you can get a Water Pokemon have a Fire type move!

In this section, I will list all of the types and the DVs you will need to get them. But, because getting the right DVs is so hard in game, I will only list those DV sets that you can use for competitive play, as there are too many possible combinations of DVs and I won't bother to figure them all out and put them on the site.
